According to the differency of locality, we select different time to shift the CATV to digital system. And the terminal set top boxes are the emphasis of digital CATV.There are some problem about the previous set top boxes: The reception of digital signal is not excellent, especially its sheer threshold of low signal level. Moreover, the sound of MPEG2 stereo is not perfect. Without the function of recording TV program, the set top boxes doesn't take advantage of the superiority of digital TV.According to the research of the storage system of STB Video file and the channel decoder technology. We implemented the PVR STB based on the development platform of Sti5518. The STB has the functions of PVR and special velocity of display. Moreover, the reception of digital TV is very stable and sensitive. At the same time, it has the Audio interface of AC-3 5.1CH.The core of PVR digital STB is the file system: the implementation of big capacity storage in HDD based on an embedded system. Owing to the best design of Video file storage system, the use of system resource is enhanced; Owing to the analyse of MPEG2 Video frame, the STB implemented the special display function; With the research of QAM demodulation,the reception quality has been promoted by means of improvement in hardware and driver.
