Background: More investments are made in maintaining and monitoring SMS service to assure high performance service to subscribers by operator. Effective facility to monitor signal at different interface of SMS network is required for helping understanding network operation situation. Other than SMPP and CMPP covered by the existing SMS monitoring system, there is EMPP, which takes its functionality between ISMG and SCP, being not covered by monitoring system yet. This paper will focus on application of EMPP monitoring. In this paper, such topics as structure of SMS network, main network entities, signaling system of interface related and PPS are discussed, the service procedure, protocol analysis, features of EMPP and signaling match process of short message networks are given out. Their common points and differences are analyzed and the possibility of the EMPP monitoring is investigated with analysis on its experiment structure and statistics function.Result: This paper also make its endeavor to construct the experiment networks structure, raise the project of monitoring and statistics, suggest the realization programming of this EMPP monitoring trail system based on which we can correctly collect, filter and analyze EMPP information. Conclusion: A standing-alone monitoring system for EMPP between ISMG and SCP can be designed and constructed successfully for its structure and application based on analysis of SMS network, signal platform, procedure of PPS service and EMPP fulfillment. It is proved to be and feasible and effective way to maintain the networks by using the method of monitoring instrument, equipment and signaling. Idea in this paper also can be applied at other interfaces between ISMG and other SMS entities.
