| Nowadays, SMS is the most popular wireless technology, like WAP, MMS, and GPRS. Some reason is that SMS is almost supported by all kinds of mobile devices, and other is its low cost. Short Message Service takes GSM net for its transmission, and we can develop the application with significant prospect based on it.Dissertation illustrates how to construct a remote home monitoring and controlling system, using existing GSM/SMS service and low cost hardware. Formerly, it is common to use wire mode to realize remote device monitoring and controlling. This way not only costs high, but also is not convenient. Nowadays, there are some research productions, which is the remote monitoring and controlling system via SMS transmitted between wireless MODEM connected with computer serial port. These systems has one same feature, they all only use GSM net to transmit short message. In the system of this dissertation, short message is not only transmitted in GSM, but also in Internet, through connecting SP to SMSC with ISMG.System realizes four kinds of service mentioned in dissertation via SMS. Simultaneously, dissertation defines SMS content format corresponding to different system services. Dissertation put the emphasis on apartment sub system design. For example, apartment management center design, user's terminal devices function design, apartment communication net design and communication protocol design.
