WLAN (wireless local area network) has been greatly developed during the past few years, and it forms a huge market. Among the available technologies, IEEE 802.11b is the most widely used in the industry. Mobile terminal can not access the network without a WLAN card , and MAC (media access control) controller is one of the key components of it. So study of the WLAN MAC controller is very important.During the thesis work, I have accomplished the following work: (1)Definition of the whole architecture of WLAN card under Window operating system, including the framework of NDIS(Network Driver Interface Standard), on-chip bus hardware and firmware design of the MAC. The firmware framework consists of the RTOS (Real Time Operating System) transporting, BSP (Board support package) and MAC protocol designed with SDL. (2)SDL specification of the MAC of IEEE 802.11b is analyzed, simulated and validated under Telelogic Tau. (3)Software/Hardware partition is made under the SDL specification. (4) UC/OS II is transported onto MicroBlaze platform. (5)SDL to C code convertion and integration into RTOS is done. (6)The SDL Environment Function design is done over UC/OS and FPGA. All the work above has been simulated and validated on the platform of Xilinx Virtex II Pro FPGA. The SDL design method and H/S partition over SDL has gained good effects during the design and test. The thesis work is part of the project of Nation 863 High Technology and has been accepted as passed.
