The Research And Realization Of The System Of Digital Reference Service On The Libraries

As the digital information environment is popular, more and more information is digitized and used online, and more and more users can look for some information and knowledge by their own and rely on network with their information retrieval. As a global information space, the Digital Reference Service provides not only an unprecedented experimental environment and application possibility but also new challenges to Reference Service in libraries.The foreign libraries developed digital reference service in as early as 1984 and so far there have been many systems of the digital reference service put to use and have different applications. Although it was started in our country before long and many libraries in our country have explored this field of the system of digital reference in these days, there still exists distance between China and the developed countries in such things as quantity, type, forms, depth and extent in answering readers' questions, standards of digital service reference and some service management. If we purchase directly these systems which were designed in foreign languages, it not only costs much but also the trait of Chinese character should be considered, and base of retrieval and a mark rule which fits in with our country and effective knowledge should be set down also. Even so, we have to design it again. We must realize it is important to develop the system of digital service reference for it is a necessary part of digital library. It has become an important subject for information service in the current libraries to establish a collaborative digitalreference service system which can meet more needs.The paper consists of six main parts. The first part explains the significance of this paper and research methods.In the second chapter, it defines the conception of Digital Reference Service, discusses in detail the origin, service pattern and character of Digital Reference Service and then analyses the service contents in overseas and inland and its development trends in the future.The third chapter has probed into the concept, forms, characteristics and operational mechanism of digital reference service system, and introduced some typical project of digital reference service system in detail, and then made researches on the present examples, of digital reference service system in contrast, and finally used the utility factor of software to analyze digital reference service system, pointing out some measures of improving digital reference service system.The fourth part has analyzed the relevantly technical standards that are used in the virtual reference service system among which the basic ideas of three standards of KnowBIT, QuIP and QATP have been introduced emphatically.The fifth part has introduced the key technology necessary to the design of the digital reference service system, including computer supported cooperative work and Shareing Application technology.Based on the theoretical and technical analysis above mentioned, the sixth part has described the lab environment, concrete functions and workflow, discussed the details to realize some functions in the system which includes the record criterion of DRS , standards ,and design principle, and finally put forward the design of the digital reference service system.
