The advent of multi-agent systems has brought opportunities for the development of complex software that will serve as the infrastructure for advanced distributed applications. During the past decade, there have been many agent architectures proposed for implementing agent-based systems, and also some efforts to formally specify agent behaviors. However, there have been great gap between agent formal models and agent implementation is rare. This thesis presents agent-oriented G-net model designed by Haiping Xu and Sol M. Shatz. This model can not only provide formal methods for the purpose of specifying agent behavior, but also bring formal methods into the design phase of the agent development life cycle.Firstly, this thesis reviews the related theories of agent and Multi-agent system. Secondly, it introduces agent-oriented G-net model how to extend G-nets to support class modeling and inheritance modeling for agent-oriented design, it also analyses the architecture of the agent-oriented G-net model and the mechanisms of key component of the model. Finally, based on agent-oriented G-net model, this thesis implements a toolkit called ADK (Agent Development Kit) and describe the generic procedure to develop an application-specific agent for multi-agent systems. To illustrate the detailed design for agent implementation based on ADK, an example of an agent family in air-ticket trading is provided.
