The Realization Of Network Management System Based On SNMP V3 Protocols

Computer networks become more and more important in all social fields.With the scale of computer network being enlarged and the architecture of computer network complicated, a powerful computer network management system is required to carry out all kinds of computer network management tasks and ensure the computer network to work efficiently and steadily.With the continuous development of computer network, we discover that the function of the network management is the process of generating high efficiency and productivity through manipulation of a complex computer network. Ever since the early 90s wide adoption of Simple Network Management Protocols (known as SNMP) has become popular for network management. Because the majority of network facilities are embedded with SNMP proxy programs in order to monitor the operation, the research work on network management system based on SNMP poses as a significant orientation.SNMP, an Internet standard protocol, which provides a framework of monitoring and control network, is widely used in TCP/IP based network. But the usually used versions, SNMPv1 & SNMPv2c are security deficient, easily to be attacked by such means as modification of information, masquerade, disclosure and message stream modification. SNMPv3 is brought to satisfy the need for security. Itbrings forward an open framework for security architecture, and proposed two models - one for protection of SNMP message, named User-based Security Model (USM) and one for access control of MEB, named View-based Access Control Model (VACM).The definition of SNMPv3 is comprised of the following items: framework including SNMPvl & SNMPv2, a whole new security system containing verification service & encrypted service, and a set of specific code for network security and access control.By means of supervision on communication facilities through SNMPv3, this thesis elaborates on the realization of network management system based on SNMPv3 protocols, therefore it achieves the management on items of failures, configurations, performance, part accounts and security, eventually it demonstrates in the form of graphical user interface and management interface.Chapter one of the thesis chiefly presents the compiling purpose and background information of network management system building. Chapter two elaborates on the network management system structure based on SNMP.To meet users' requirements, in chapter three the author comes up with a network management plan based on SNMPv3 along with a design plan for sub models in details by integrating new technology and standards in network management.Chapter four briefs on the realization of network management based on SNMPv3.In chapter five, the author analyses the performance of the system. In the last part of the thesis, the author makes a summary of the research work done pertaining to the thesis.
