Research And Implementation Of SNMP Manager And Proxy Agent Based On XML

Network management technology has being developing rapidly since SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) was published at the end of 1980s.It becomes an essential element in constructing and maintaining networks along with the enhancement of management functions and expanding of managed objects.Most IP-based management software use SNMP as the interface to communicate with managed objects, but they emphasis on the implementation of FCAPS functions. They use special software provided by a third party to implement SNMP manage operations, so the extendibility and scalability of their products were affected by the software being adopted. To overcome these limitations, it's very important to develop software to implement SNMP manager by themselves.Furthermore, not all of network devices support SNMP. For example, the early devices and nor-core devices (UPS, NAS etc.). If these nor-SNMP devices want to be managed in the same platform with SNMP device, the best way is to add a proxy agent between SNMP manager and managed devices. It's the weakness of network management software.Contra posed this status, the thesis discusses how to implement the SNMP manager and the proxy agent. The combination of these two components can help NMS managing maximum managed objects (SNMP-supported or not) by SNMP and resolving the problem of implementing the underlying management protocol.The universal and scalability are two important factors in system implementation due to the multiform management and managed objects. For this purpose, we apply the XML technology in system design and implementation and bring forward a new implementation model based XML.After the introduction of SNMP, XML technology and its application in network management the thesis covers some key technologies in more details. At last design principle and implementation are discussed thoroughly.
