Background:Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is a common condition affecting a lot of women in China, which leaves a disabling condition of chronic pelvic pain (CPP). Women with chronic pelvic pain suffer a lower quality of life in both physical health and psychological wellbeing. The concept of constitution is widely applied in the practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Constitutional consideration is an important process for clinical diagnosis and treatment, and it also lays the foundation for health promotion and disease prevention. Our study is trying to explore the application of Constitution of TCM in chronic pelvic pain after pelvic inflammatory disease. Objective:To evaluate the Constitution of TCM from chronic pelvic pain after pelvic inflammatory disease so as to point doctors in the right direction. Find out whether there is a difference in Constitution between women with Chronic pelvic pain after PID and healthy women. If there is, we will discuss and try to understand why there is such kind of difference and how can we make use of this difference in clinical work. Methods:A pre-experiment of 20 women with the Constitution of TCM Questionnaire were applied to field-test the research and get a better understanding of the sample size at the same time, which is 120 as we now know.60 of them with a chronic pelvic pain (a chronic or persistent pain for at least 6 months) after PID,60 of them are healthy women without any severe diseases. Constitutions of TCM of all 120 women were perceived by Constitution of TCM Questionnaire.Results:1. There is a significant difference of the distribution of constitutions between women with CPP after PID and health women.2. Women with chronic pelvic pain after PID are more likely to be Yang-Deficiency Constitution than healthy women.3. The score of Yang-Deficiency Constitution was significantly higher among women with chronic pelvic pain than healthy women.4. There are more women with CPP after PID are of more than one biased constitution than healthy women. The most common constitution appear at the same time with Yang-Deficiency constitution is Qi-Deficiency constitution.Conclusion:1. Yang-Deficiency Constitution may be the risk factor of chronic pelvic pain after PID.2. Chronic pelvic pain after PID may aggravate state of Yang-Deficiency of women who suffer from it.3.As the procession of disease, women with CPP after PID are more likely to be of more than one biased constitution.
