"Sensible Body"

Around the notion of "induction", this paper analyses human’s intuitive capacity of reacting to induction of the objective world, and points out that the induction is an extension of human thinking. The human body as a medium, according to the author, is a special product of the context of a certain period of time. The interactive video installation uses the audience’s body as a vehicle to develop a "individual experience", and by application of the coding and decoding technology, it fulfills a creative transformation of human perceptive organs, thereby enabling the artist to observe and perceive sensations in the human body, to alter the original narrative structure in the interactive video installation and finally create an unpredictable state full of possibilities for life and art. Interactive video installation is a new international art form. The author makes a systematic case study of some interactive video installations on the basis of his study in the latest development of new media art and his reading of Chinese and international literature related to this art form. Citing his experience in creating his own installation Zodiacal Year, the author has formulated his ideas on the value of the human body as a medium in artistic creation.
