Stereotype threat is being at risk of confirming a negative stereotype about one’s group asself-characteristic.The existing stereotype threat research shows the stereotype threat willweaken the performance of group members that be negative stereotype. This study thoughthree experiments examining the stereotype threat effect on junior high school girls inmath.Experiment1examined the junior middle school students whether there is agender-math stereotype. Found that, there have gender-math stereotype in junior highschool who consider "boys are good at math more than girls", and that the gender-mathstereotype have no gender difference in junior high school, then male and female have aconcept "boys are good at math more than girls". Experiment2examined gender-mathstereotype influence on junior high school girl in math. The results showed the math scoresof girls in inspire threat situation significantly below without inspire situation, because ofthe junior high school girls math influenced by stereotype threat. Experiment3examinedself-affirmation mitigation effect on gender-math stereotype threat. The results showed theself-affirmation group of girls’ math test scores higher than that of non self-affirmationgroup of girls in the condition of stereotype threat.This study have provide evidence for the junior high school in math learning is affected bythe negative gender-math stereotype threat, and explore eliminate gender-math stereotypethreat to improve the math scores of junior high school girls. This study not only in termsof age sampling expand the existing gender-math stereotype study, but also have referencein the intervention of negative gender-math stereotype threat mathematics educationpractice.
