With the development of economic globalization, the trend of cultural globalization has become inevitable, and there emerges an upsurge to learn Chinese around the world. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language has become one of the main ways to disseminate Chinese culture. Therefore, in the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the teacher should not only enable students to communicate in their daily lives, but also should make them understand the connotation of Chinese culture in order to make them do better in the process of cross-cultural communication.This article has carried on detailed comparative analysis from three aspects, that is, the eating habit, the way of acting and the ideology of Chinese and American people showed in Chinese and American traditional festivals and then it summarizes commonality and differences in these three aspects and finds out the factors leading to these similarities and differences. The article amply describes what one should do at classroom teaching by using different teaching methods according to the various similarities and differences so as to achieve the goal of cultivating students’ intercultural communicative competence.
