V. S. Naipaul is a typical discrete writer, as an Indian, he was born in a colonialisland Trinidad, later went to Britain for school and work, eventually settled in the UK.From birth, he was doomed to be a Diaspora. He grew up with the influence of thethree cultures, this diverse background led to his uncertain cultural identity. It’simpossible that a man has no cultural root, everyone be feed by the culture, the onlydifference is the quantity. People grow up by absorbing the nutrition of the culture,so the cultural identity is very important to any writer, which is the premise to live inthe world and the key to do anything. To analyze Naipaul’s multi-aggregation of his cultural identity, the methodologyof this article is mostly based on demonstration, and the academic support is thepost-colonial culture theory. The main viewpoints in this article are as follows:Miguel Street, A House for Mr. Biswas, The Enigma of Arrival are Naipual’srepresentative works of different periods. They reflect the author’s mood andattitude of different periods. This article analysis the plot, character and theme ofthese three novels, and try to see the process of the author’s cultural identityconstruction. When we read Miguel Street, we find that people in this book alwaystry to escape, but they can’t get rid of the tragic fate. They don’t know who are they, and get into the cultural identity crisis. In the book A House for Mr. Biswas, themaster get the short stable, but he still can’t obtain the real independence andfreedom because of lacking cultural identity. While, when we read The Enigma ofArrival, we feel cool and comfortable, the master looking for his cultural identity withall his life, he found that he can’t identify with any of the three, nor can he deviate allof them completely. Finally he commingled the three kinds of culture and been aspecial one. Naipaul had no intention to change the world, he is not any country ornations spokesman, he pays attention to his inner, concerned about his development. In contemporary society, population migration is frequent, increasing exchangesbetween countries, the global village concept gradually becomes reality, more and more people with diverse cultural background, Naipaul not only shows them a newway to make themselves comfortable, but also makes people start to think aboutwhere are their roots, and look for the lost spiritual homeland.
