Sun Li And His Novels In The Perspective Of Gender

Sun Li is a remarkable writer whose artistic vitality can span two stages which are modern literature and contemporary literature. At both stage, Sun Li has gained exceptional performance. He never stops working during his life and his attitude to literature is conscientious and cautious. Therefore, compared with other prolific writers in the republic of letters, the literary works of Sun Li are not much, but they have burst with vitality. They do not fade with the passage of time, but break through the historical limits, become more and more glamorous and famous in the history of Chinese literature. Sun Li was also a male writer who is best at describing the females in the liberated areas of1940s. He created a series of lively, optimistic, kind-hearted, lovely and complex underlying rural women images. These women images not only added new bright spots for the gallery of characters in modern Chinese literature, but also provided the possibility to discuss gender issues for the academic circles."Gender" includes not only the natural physiological sex but also gender. But the female literature studies in the past often tend to ignore this point, focus on the works of female writers and exclude the male writers. In fact, gender studies are not confined to women, but have broader and more inclusive vision. Because a female writer does not necessarily have the correct gender consciousness, and a male writer is not necessarily male chauvinists, so the gender of male writers works tend to show a complex feature. Sun Li is such a male writer. At one hand, his conscious is full of the worship, love and care to the female, he gives his female images affectionate praise; On the other hand, these images reveal the traces of the patriarchy-centered culture and aesthetic perspective of male. This article attempts to use the Gender theory, regard the gender view as an entrance point to examine the gender meaning of Sun Li’s novels. To parse Sun Li’s unique, complex and contradictory gender concept through the in-depth analysis of women emotional description, showing the living specialties of women, revealing the patriarchal values excavation and the restrictions of male consciousness. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this text is divided into three parts:the first part discusses the female themes and images of Sun Li’s novels; the second part analyses the narrative perspective and image of the Sun Li’s novels from the gender perspective; the third part discusses the conciseness of patriarchy-centered culture in Sun Li’s novels.
