Ji-yang CAI’s family was a big family in medieval times, who was from Chen-liu Yu, thenwent to Ji-yang Kao-cheng. It came from Chen-liu CAI, a cultural family in Han Dynasty, andthen turned to be a big family in politic, military and society of Two-Jins Dynasties and SouthernDynasties. This paper selected Ji-yang CAI’s family as a case, who was discussed rarely. Its timewas from Two-Hans Dynasties to Southern Dynasties. We observed the characters of this bigfamily in medieval times from lineages, marriages, politics and culture depended on the socialflowing deformation of Han Dynasty, Jin Dynasty and Southern Dynasties, which had big value.In the first chapter, we talked about the origin of CAI’s name, the changes of locations andlineages. From the family name of Ji, who was from the descendants of King ZHOU Wen, CAImade the name of country as its family name. At first, CAI’s family made Chen-liu as its location,and then it became Ji-yang. After that, the family became bigger and bigger. This part tried toexpounded the lineages clearly and draw the table of the lineages.In the second chapter, we talked about CAI’s marriages and officials. Fifteen marriageswere talked in this part. As to its marriages, Ji-yang CAI’s family thought highly of itsfamily status, the circle was chosen among big families, such as Chen-jun Yang-xia YUAN’sfamily and royal clan of Southern Dynasties. As to its officials, the features were found related toofficial rank, the beginning official and military power. As to its official background, Ji-yangCAI’s family was once in the first level and became military and provincial governors ofcontrolling military power.In the third chapter, we talked about Ji-yang CAI’s family and transformation of Eastern Jinand Southern Dynasties. This chapter was the key part of this paper. In the first part, we analyzedthe process from the failure in Han and Wei Dynasties to the success in Two-Jins Dynasties. Inthe second part, we talked about role played by Ji-yang CAI’s family in resisting the minority ofHu, supporting SIMA’s family imperial power and keeping the aristocrats balance, when Ji-yangCAI’s family rose in the political stage during Two-Jins Dynasties. We observed and analyzedthe relationship between CAI and WU families, CAI and refugees, and their leaders. It was alsothe innovation. In the third part, the influences were completely showed in the official stage ofSouthern Dynasties.In the fourth chapter, we talked about CAI’s culture from generation to generation. As to itsfamily principles, Ji-yang CAI’s family was insatiable of learning and held on seriously by filialduty. As to its culture, Ji-yang CAI’s family was a typical Confucianism family and put greatemphasis on Lixue tradition. As to its religious beliefs, Ji-yang CAI’s family could acceptConfucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in different scales.In the conclusion, we analyzed the reasons which Ji-yang CAI’s family could not get into the door of the aristocrats.This paper had some progress in talking about CAI’s marriages and lineages compared withMr WANG Yi-tong’s The Table on Ji-yang Kao-cheng CAI’s Family’s Lineages and Marriages.This paper talked about the questions about Ji-yang CAI’s family, the leaders of refugees andrefugees, and the roles CAI Bao and CAI Mo played in the political stage of Eastern Jin Dynasty,which were rarely involved by academic circle.
