Mitigating Effect Of Ancestral Worship On Death Anxiety

Folk psychology research mainly behavior patterns and beliefs and concepts in the middleand lower class of society they are unofficial, non-mainstream, non-academic style and notbooks. Because the history of ancestor worship and their numerous features, it is both a part ofthe official, but also deeply rooted in folk culture. In our country, psychological theories aboutthe death are relatively less. This paper attempts to explore the role of ancestor worship to relievethe anxiety of death from a cultural perspective. Study1explored whether terror managementtheory can apply in the context of Chinese culture, the results showed that after the mortalitysalience the worldview defense of Chinese college student participants has not been strengthened.Study2investigated the correlation between ancestor worship and death anxiety questionnaire.In study3, participants who in mortality salience conditions would to pursuit of more ancestorworship in the experimental method. The last study using subliminal reminder of death, theresults indicate that there is no difference in mortality salience group and the neutral group inStatus Anxiety Scale score. It can be proved that ancestor worship has a role to ease the anxietyof death. We can make the following conclusions:(1) Male has higher ancestor worship than female.(2) Female is easier to feel death anxiety than male.(3) Ancestor worship can be divided into two dimensions of ancestor apotheosis and ancestorrespected.(4) There is a negative correlation between ancestor worship and death anxiety.(5)Ancestor worship is a way of Chinese people management the terror from death, and it canrelieve death anxiety.
