The "Union of human and heaven" in China and the "Brahma is atman" in India both have long culture history. These two cultures, as the base for national spirit construction and development, are so profound and sophisticated. Understanding the traditional eastern culture may help us find out the spiritual home and promote human quality. Speedy development of modern society and pursuit for maximum benefit gradually make people depart from traditional cultural moral. For example, the environmental problem involves separation of the human being from the nature. For reaching the harmony bwteen human and the nature, we need derive nutrient from traditional culture and learn its essence.Chinese and Indian cultures have similarities and also difference during development. Comparing the "union of human and heaven" in Chinese to the "brahma is atman" in Indian idea will help us deeply recognize the merit of two cultures so as to learn the advantage of others and inherit our fine tradition as well as.This paper describes these two ideas of "union of human and heaven" and "brahma is atman" in Chinese and India cultures and make comparison and analysis. It involves the following aspects. First, make comparison on source and connotation and compare the state for which the Chinese Taoism and Confucianist and the Indian traditional theory are seeking. Second, make comparison of these two ideas and make analysis on the influence to social life, behaviors, social ethics, religious feelings and the focus of social life. Finally, make comparison on practical means, including the characteristics of balance, practice, knowledge structure and the practice occations.Finally, this paper draws the following conclusions:first, the "union of human and heaven" and "brahma is atman" in Chinese and India cultures have great similaries. Second, based on difference of national characteristics, these two ideas are developing to different directions but also faced with different dilemma and difficulty, such as the dogma of Chinese theory and the mystery and ritualization of Indian religion. Third, the "union of human and heaven" and "brahma is atman" ideas have positive guiding meanings, which is clearly obvious in environmental ethics.
