Carl Gustav Jung occupies a very important position in western psychology andthe humanities and social science in the20th century, he is a representative ofpsychoanalysis, is the pioneer of analytical psychology, and puts forward a lot ofimportant psychological points of view. Jungs theory is not only the inheritance ofFreuds psychological thought, at the same time, makes new theoretical breakthroughon the basis of it. Holding different views about the unconscious is the root cause ofdivergence between Jung and Freud, Jung thinks the unconscious is not just apent-up desire, instinct impulse alternatives, it is also related to the culture, and evenbeyond culture, therefore, he puts forward the concept of the collective unconsciousthat becomes the basic assumption and premise of archetype theory. Collectiveunconscious is passed down through generations of racial memory, is a deeppersonal unconscious. Archetype as original experiences in the vault, is the maincontent of the collective unconscious and load mode, it can be characterized, through the original image in the acquired experiences. Jungs archetype emphasizesthe human’s irrational world, including collective unconscious, treating the humanspsychology as a whole, giving people the integrity of the original mind, penetratinginto the peoples instinct and the transcendental spirit structure, on the basis of thetraditional philosophy, more enriching the understanding of the essence of humanand the human nature, showing the Jung’s " the great of spirit and soul ".Jungs literary thought is closely connected with his theory of psychology, hasexerted a tremendous influence in the field of literature and art. On the one hand, the original image implying the archetype in works of art provides a proof theexistence of the unconscious, on the other hand, the ultimate explanation of thecollective unconscious uncovers the deep meaning of the art symbol of a work. Jungfully uses the archetype theory to analyze and explain the symbolic connotation ofthe original image in the works of art, collective unconscious theory also penetratesinto the artistic creations, works of art, art creators and various aspects such as therecipients by Jung’s hand, forming the theory system of the interpretation. Under the condition of the current literature and art’s development, we still need to doaccording to Jungs path, reinterpret works with archetype theory, dig deeper into thearchetype hidden behind the works. Creating a work implying archetype and usingthe archetype theory to interpret works can create the eternal value and apermanent charm. This article will discuss Jungs archetype theory from three aspects, use Jungsarchetype theory to interpret the artistic symbol of the classic works, and find outthe archetype hidden behind the works to inspire modern peoples life. The first part discusses the background of Jung’s archetype, archetype’scategory and the two sides of art symbol: the collective unconscious hidden in thehuman’s heart and the dynamic image interacting with the audiences, according tocertain logic, systematically and comprehensively analyzes the archetype and givesthe authors own understanding, provide theoretical support for below art symbol’sinterpretation.
