Marx’s ethical thoughts refer to his economics, philosophy, political work andletters and other documents. It has largely failed to form a complete system of theory.Therefore,western Marxist scholars for the understanding of the nature theory ofMarx’s ethical thoughts are ambiguous. The western scholars on the understanding ofthe nature of Marxist ethics theory hold a lot of different views. Some westernscholars think that Marx’s whole philosophy do not exist any moral thought. Marx’sthought has no contact of moral. Marx’s ideas only represent a form of pure theory.Most western scholars believe that Marx himself although not explicitly put forward akind of systematic moral doctrine, Marx’s theory as a complete ideological system,inherently contains a kind of ethical stance, and even lies a moral theory. This kind ofmoral theory in some western scholar points of view is a kind of utilitarianism. Somescholars think that it is the consequences of socialism. From one of the few domesticscholars in the study of Marx’s ethical thoughts, we can find that some scholars claimto return to Marx. They admit that Marx has utilitarianism. Based on Marx’s works,Marx’s utilitarianism is discussed in this paper. Some scholars think that westernutilitarianism is an important source of Marx moral theory. They recognize Marx’sutilitarianism. On account of the realistic need of socialism with Chinesecharacteirstics, some scholars emphasize that promote Marxist ethics points to workof utilitarianism.In this article, we have a comparative study of the system through the fivechapters on the relationship between Marx and utilitarianism. The first chapterexpatiate the background and significance of topic selection, and points out theinnovation of the research. The second chapter is back history. It mainly inspectsMarx’s historical origin with utilitarianism. The third chapter comes up with questionsand deep analysis Marx and utilitarianism in the eyes of foreign scholars.The fourth chapter concludes that in the field of Chinese scholars, which in a certainsense, Marx was a utilitarian of the proletariat. The fitfh chapter has a full-text summary: In the Chinese and western scholars on the relationship between Marx andutilitarianism behind different views, there are different position, method and purpose.Therefore, we should use the dialectical, historical view of relationship between Marxand utilitairanism. This to our deep understanding of Marx’s ethical thought to guidethe concrete practice of China’s socialist are extremely important historical value andpractical significance.
