A Study Of Shen Zhenglu 's Poetic Style And Artistic Education

Mr. Shen Zhenglu, the famous Erhu musician and musical educator, the Professor at the Nanjing Normal University School of music(retired). It has gained its reputation around the nation since1960s.Mr. Shen’s Erhu playing style has its naturality, strong, solidity, whose music performance has a great range, which is based on Chinese folk music and folklore, which is divided into three stages:namely optimistic style as a young apprentice, traditional style as a student and blending styles as a teacher. Yang Guan San Die is a model for his mature style, in which A key (two strings of Erhu tuned as Fa and Do in movable-do system of solmization) is used for the first time to make more kinds of tuning types. Yang Guan is a place name, and San Die means three variations of different textures.The masterpiece attracts widespread attention and a huge following.As an Erhu professor, Mr. Shen has unique educational philosophy. Depending on his proficient skill and Teaching theory, Mr. Shen has trained many excellent Erhu performers who are famous in Jiangsu or even in China and some of them deliver the music of Erhu overseas. Mr. Shen has engaged in teaching erhu for decades in the Music College of Nanjing Normal University. Learned traditional Chinese culture and spirit of the new era, he plays an important role in the connection of the past and the future:on the one hand to Inherit the essence of seniors erhu masters, on the other hand to initiate a strategy at normal university to focus on both performance and teaching, which has certain guiding significance and reference value.This thesis discusses aforementioned two aspects on the basis of in-depth interviews with Mr. Shen and analysis about his works, performances and teaching, combined with my own playing experience.
