On The Creation Of Chinese Students In Lihua

Chinese-American Yu Lihua has written a series of literary works with her rich experience, especially her overseas students’ novels, which stand for her writing style. Therefore she is considered as "a precursor to the literature of student immigrants". She plays a connecting role in the process of the development of overseas students’ literature in the20th century. Her novels describe overseas students’ dilemma of culture creatively and struggling experience of the "Rootless Generation" in the alien land objectively, which get rid of the limitations of "weak people" inferiority mentality from the early20th century overseas students’ literature. Besides, her works reflect that overseas students’ under depression and confusion.This article mainly researches Yu Lihua’s creation of overseas students’ novel from four aspects:The first part discusses the development of Chinese overseas students’ literature in the20th century, analyzes the background of the birth of overseas students’ literature at different periods, and emphasizes the impact of three major overseas study waves. Based on the analysis of the development of overseas students’ literature in Taiwan in fifties and sixties of the20th century, this paper will dig into Yu Lihua’s suffering of "dual exiled life" in the era of unique historical conditions. In short, her special experience of "marginal people" contributes to her psychological and cultural background of overseas students’ novel creation.In the second part, this article will expound the cultural dilemma of Yu Lihua’s overseas students’ novels. This paper will talk about the psychological process from "Losing root" to "Searching root" of hers’ overseas students and the reason for this process around the consciousness of "Root". At the same time, this article will discuss hers’ growth trajectory of self awaking Chinese female gender identity consciousness when "Searching root" faces the conflict between Chinese and western culture.The third part will analyze the unique artistic pursuit and exploration of Yu Lihua’s overseas students’ novel creation.Her novels inherits the Chinese traditional literature writing style of true reproduction of life and rich autobiography color, which enhance the true feelings of the novel; In addition, she draws a large number of lessons from the western modernist literature expression skills, especially the use of stream of consciousness. At the same time, this part shows the unique charm of the novel on the language to express.The fourth part will give an overall evaluation on her overseas students’ novels creation. This part will analyze her unique shape of "Rootless generation", in which she criticizes the consciousness of the "face" in Chinese traditional culture, indifference on the western freedom of the individual privacy, women’s oppression of Chinese and western social patriarchy, etc. On the basis of her criticism, she reflects the disadvantages of the two heterogeneous cultures. Meanwhile, this part will analyze deficiencies of her works in the plot setting and theme show, etc. Based on comprehensive analysis for her creations, this section will confirm her creations’value orientation and the special status of a leader at overseas students’ literary creation.
