The main topic of this paper is about religious thoughts of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who is the key person from the end of the19th century to the middle20th century. Histhoughts include different theories from early period to later period. He puts forwardthe theory of “what can be said and what cannot be said” and states that it should notbe said;the later concept of him includes the proposition of “Language Game”,“Formof Life”,“World Picture”, pointing out the thesis that “Religion is a ‘Language Game’,‘Form of Life’,‘Word Picture’.” This suggests a transition from the early period whenwe can say nothing to say something in his later period, which is an important turningpoint. Wittgenstein’s ideology contains series of rich religious thoughts not only in hisearly period but also his later period, He also finds an effective combination of hislanguage analytic philosophy and philosophy of religion, further deepening hisphilosophical thoughts. I think it is necessary to excavate and do up his religiousthoughts. There are five sections of the paper:The first section, the introduction part of the article, it mainly introduces theresearch status, research significance and the method of Wittgenstein’s religiousthoughts at home and abroad. The second section, the beginning part of the article, it definitely elaborates onWittgenstein’s biography and the background and origin of his religious thoughts. The third section, the main part of the article, it is a comprehensive discussion ofWittgenstein’s religious thoughts in this paper. According to the Chronological Order, his theories can be divided into three levels: first, the early period of Wittgenstein’sfamous work Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, where there is a thesis called “whatcannot be said”, dividing religion; Second, later work Philosophical Investigationsgives a series of thesis about “Language Game”,“Form of Life”,“World Picture”,which also have some relationships with religion, and thus theories of “religion is akind of game”,“religion is a form of life”,“religion is a world picture” and so on; Once again there has been several concepts, such as the understanding of “Science”,“Superstition”,“God”,“Thelastjudgement”etc. pointing out that the religion issupported by “Faith” and there is no need for rational dialectical thinking. Religionalso needs a “Passion”, which is better for people to express the love to the God andfits his religious ideas into his language philosophy, so as to arrive at a mutual echo, thus deepening the understanding. The fourth section, the conclusion part, it analyzes and evaluates Wittgenstein’sreligious thoughts, including the influence, characteristics and the appraisement of hisreligious views. The fifth section, the reference literature.
