Breathing pattern has direct impact on the singing state, not only for itsproviding the singing power, but also for its influencing the larynx position and the vocal folds movement. Whetherthelarynx position is stable or the vocal folds movements are free directly affect the vocal timbre, the vocal quality and the high pitch, even has an impact on the vocal fatigue and vocal health. The scholars both at home and abroad all agreed that thoracic-abdominal breathing is the best way of singing breathing. When singing, move the navel toward the spine but keep the sternum standing and lower ribs and waist back expansion, and the diaphragm and the abdominal muscles antagonize each other. But from our clinical practice and evaluating the singing voice, some singers who suffered from the voice disorders or have the high pitch difficult are directly related with the bad singing breathing pattern. This study takes26Bel Canto singers as the research object, through the questionnaire (26people), clinical laryngoscope examination (26people), the singing state assessment (24people), and Respibands measure (3people), to observe their singing posture and breathing method, the larynx position change and the vocal folds stretch with the high tones and so on, trying to find the breathing problems that influence singer’s singing and the high tones, to remind the singing teachers and students to pay more attention to the their breathing, not only understanding the singing principle, but also carrying it out in their singing practice. The conclusions of this study are as follows:1. From the26subject questionnaire results,14people (54%) complaint their lack of enough breathing support,7of which did not use the thoracic-abdominal breathing. Althoughthe thoracic-abdominal breathing is recognized as the best singing breathing, it is worth thinking deeply about why1/4people did not use the best thoracic-abdominal breathing2. From the26subject laryngoscope examination,16people (62%) are hard to say [i] when opening their mouth and tongue out.12of them (75%) sing the high toneswith difficulty.8of12people did not use the thoracic-abdominal breathing. It is not difficult to speculate that there would be some correlation among the breathing patterns and the laryngeal cavity relaxation and the high pitch. 3. From the26subject laryngoscope examination,24subjects (92%) try to use the ventricular band and epiglottis movement to shorten their vocal tract when singing the high pitch, which is consistent with who sing high tones with laryngeal position upward(21people). This means that it is not easy for people to sing the high tones without the help of the external laryngeal muscle, it is very rare for singer to sing on the breath.4. It is well known that the inspiration state directly affects the singing state. From this study, there are still17people (71%) who shrug their shoulders and lift their chest up when breathing in. it is a big problem that must be overcome due to the bad influence on the diaphragm drop and the throat relaxation and vocal folds movement and the high pitch.5. From the observation of14people who can’t sing the high pitch easily,9people of them did not use the thoracic-abdominal breathing. Although there are5subjects who use the thoracic-abdominal breathing, it is not easy for them to keep the chest expanding and the throat stable when singing the high tones. Therefore it is suggested that no matter how the singer’ s physiological structure, even training for many years, it would be still difficult to sing the high tones if misusing the singing breathing.6. From the observation of15subjects who use thoracic-abdominal breathing, their learning singing average year is7,10of them who sing the high tones easily. While the9subjects who did not use thoracic-abdominal breathing, their learning singing average year is7.5, their high tones are all difficulty. This further shows that the high tone doesn’t have relation to the training years, but have relation to the singing breathing patterns.7. From the Respibands measure result, Respibands measure can be used to observe the subjects chest, abdominal movement, it is easy to judge which is the thoracic-abdominal breathing, which is drum-belly breathing. It can be used to be a supplementary means of singing teaching and breathing training.
