The Compliments, a courtesy language, are widely used in daily interactions.Because of the differences between Chinese and Russian language, Russian studentsare prone to make mistakes in using compliments. In this thesis, starting from theview, through questionnaires and theoretical analysis, we hope to find the errors thatRussian students often make in learning compliments and the causes of these errors,in order to create the solutions to solve these problem, provide a reference for futureteaching, and look for appropriate teaching strategies.This paper is divided into five parts: The first part is an introduction, describingthe research background, significance, objects, purposes and research methods. Thesecond part is compliments and their pragmatic failures, divided into two parts; thebody part focuses on contrasting between Chinese and Russian language, trying tofind the reasons why Russian students make mistakes in theory. The third part is thestudy of pragmatic failures,making investigation and analysis about pragmaticfailures in cross-cultural communication. The fourth part is the surveys and analysisof Russian students’compliment use, trying to analyze causes of pragmatic failurethrough questionnaire. The fifth part is the solutions of pragmatic failures andteaching suggestions, exploring for teaching pragmatic solutions and strategicmeasures in the future.
