Ludwigvan Beethoven(1770‐1827) was born in Germany and had been a leading figure of Viennese Classical period who remained one of the most famous and influential of all composers in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in world music. Thus he was known as the "Saint" of music. Apart from his famous32Piano Sonatas, Variations were also one of his focused fields which had greatly influenced on the history of Variations."32Variations in C minor" was one of Beethoven’s most eminent works during his interim career. This paper takes "32Variations in C minor" as the main research object and conducts thorough analysis from3aspects of the work:1, theme and text analysis;2, analysis on the overall arrangement of32Variations;3, analysis on performance techniques. To reflect that music composition often features historical heritage, this paper does not only deal with Beethoven’s works but also makes a brief summary of the history of variations. This paper makes recommendations for people who are trying to learn and perform "32Variations in C minor" based on collected reference, writer’s hands‐on experience and the following methods: music historiography, music form analysis, harmony theory and performance theory, etc.
