On The Personality Representation Of TV Characters

In recent years, with the fast and steady social construction of ideological infrastructure, there is an increasing focus on the television documentary about people with unique qualities. This kind of TV documentary brings vast sociological benefits and is highly moral appealing. By selecting special stories and extraordinary people, through realistic filming techniques, TV documentary reflects the spiritual social values behind the stories as well as the characters. However, as compared with the foreign TV documentary industry, the production of the Chinese TV documentary about human characters is still in the initial phase, which requires the exploration and practices by the TV professionals.In this thesis, we firstly provide an in depth analysis about the theme and character selection techniques through three different areas:Theme Planning, Film Structures and story selections. We next discuss about the method on pre-filming preparations, camera skills as well as the Paralanguage and commentary dubbing techniques. Detailed analysis of the post-production editing techniques is also carried out. By using our self-produced documentary,"With a single wing, an angel would still fly", as a real example, we discuss thoroughly the way to produce a TV documentary that focus on human characters. By using the experience gained from producing this documentary, we provide our own perspective only how to create a TV documentary. Specifically, we discuss the ways, such as using different expressional techniques, camera position and types, to present a human character from all kinds of angles. In this way, a TV documentary on human characters will become more attractive and bring the audience with a deep emotional impact, which will help build the unique quality of a TV documentary and thus create positive social values.
