Confidence is an essential ingredient of success in a wide range of domains ranging from job performance and mental health to sports, business and combat. Some authors have suggested that not just confidence but overconfidence-believing you are better than you are in reality-is advantageous because it serves to increase ambition, morale, resolve, persistence or the credibility of bluffing, generating a self-fulfilling prophecy in which exaggerated confidence actually increases the probability of success. Plous has said,"No problem in judgment and decision making is more prevalent and more potentially catastrophic than overconfidence."By using the methods of questionnaire and model construction, the relationships among the overconfidence, students’ academic emotions and behavior engagement is undertook exploration,draw the following conclusions:1. Compared to high-performing junior students, overconfidence is more universal existing among low-performing junior students.2. High-performing junior students scored lower significantly than low-performing junior students.3. Among low-performing students, the relationship of the sores of overconfidence,four dimensions of academic emotions,behavior engagement are significant,not only pre-overconfidence, but also after-overconfidence.4. Pre-overconfidence and negative-low arousal emotions can predict behavior engagement negatively. After-overconfidence can positively predict behavior engagement and negative-low arousal emotions can predict behavior engagement negatively.5. Negative-low arousal emotions partially mediated overconfidence to behavior engagement of low-performing junior students.
