"Heroic Complex" Interpretation

Since the1990s, South Korean film broke out unlimited potential, shows in both of the commercial and artistic area. Korean films keep refreshing the box-office records, and have gained lots of awards from different International Film Festivals all over the world. Korean film which has broad development potential already became one of the most important power of Asian film.The strong "Korean wave" is not only swept across Asia,bur also ready for shock the world film market. Korea film always focus on the details of the characterization and nowadays it is gradually worked out a unique path of Korean movie characters style. Review Korean films in recent years,from "Shiri" to "JSA" from "My Sassy Girl" to "Miss Granny," from "The Host" to " The Flu" from "Old Boy "to " New World ", in the new century, with the continue rising of Korean film industry,more and more great words appeared and show people various themes and spirit, these films not only have touching stories, also easy to close and touch people’s hearts, because of them, Asian film market has injected fresh blood. Korea is a country which deeply influenced by Confucianism, and in national development has gone through a lot of aggression and division, can be described as troubled nation, but this history also cultivated the excellent brave and courage character of Korean people from inside to outside since ancient times. Based on this deep-rooted national spirit, Korean-made film and television works normally select "salvation" as a key point in the story narrative, combine the strong traditional spirit and hero complex, the personal pursuit and the society reality together. Also, therefore, since the new century, Korean movie fresh and powerful hero image appeared into the eyes of the audience. These normal people from the bottom of society, lack of belief, they are not the traditional image of hero, but all of them without exception,finally walked on a way to save the society, save other people. Their normal life is full of heroic glory. Korean film hero characteristic is influent by the post-modern cultural, so it is different to Hollywood individual heroism, breaking the Hollywood superhero fate which always win at the end. Korean focusing on the situation of the normal people, when they face the terrible fate, social reality, and struggle in family, friendship, love, they reveal a strong national spirit and irresistible heroic destiny, convey to the audience a sense of optimism and power of life.This paper focuses on the psychological origins of the hero and the hero complex, studied Korean movie hero image construction method, and analysis a unique expression of psychological, emotional, narrative and other details of the characterization, which is under the postmodern influenced. Use this to show the spirit and development trend of Korean film in the new century. And also analyzes the road of "Big-film" production policy and industrial development in Korea. China and South Korea have similar historical traditions, cultural,and ideological foundations. In recent years Chinese domestic films is no lack of big production, big investment, but it is still lack of touching story and no strong heroic image in audience’ hearts, still requires a lot of energy to meet the needs of the audience’s hero emotion and heroes spirit. In this paper, by analysis lots of Korean films and the characters image construction, we can see Korean film’s special style and spirit, its helpful to Chinese domestic film, useful to the develop ideas and themes diversification of Chinese films, also promote mainstream culture and values.
