The thesis analyzes the features of the American short story "The Good Samaritan" written by Joyce Carol Oates, which is also the case of translation integrated in. By the certain English-Chinese translation attempt, the thesis also elaborates the strategies involved, such as how to translate the conversations and monologues in the narrative, as well as how to handle the rhetoric and allusion cross-culturally. The translation tries to base on the insightful criteria put forward by Lin Yutang, the master of literature and translation, applying translation theory to the practice. Furthermore, the translation also results from many references to some masterpieces of translation, especially the flexible use of translation skills.
