Paul Auster confirms on contingency, whose opinions resembles Richard Rorty and the existentialism. He thinks that everything in the world is governed by contingency, without exception. He insists in Anti-essentialism and Non-teleological, that we can never see an absolutely perfect form of society, neither we have no universal human nature cover all individuals. Neither in the history nor in the novels, is utopiapurely accidental, which needs to be revealed in hundreds of years. Writers write to create accidental selves, who are against tradition by personalized narrative. The missions of writers are creating their own contingency and ultimate vocabulary, different from the old ones. Auster also believes that human essential being are accidental, people feel mysterious and doomed when they accept that essence, simultaneously, you will feel the ridiculous nature of the world. But Auster still shows us his optimistic attitude about responding to contingency by the way of fleeing, exile and playing games.
