With the development of visual media, sound has spread toward to screen frompeople’s daily life. In many film and television works, the sound through creativeprocessing makes the film with more artistic expression. In the while, by soundfunction the characters are made more distinctive. Therefore, films will becomeeclipsed if without sound.The film as a kind of modern art has got large development since the last century.It is a big era progress to achieve sound development in films from the initial silence.TV dramas are widely loved by audience just because of the characters and theirexperiences resonate with the audience themselves. The shape of the characters neverexists without sound applications. Sound applications not only make films in rich ofcontent, but also provide vivid characters. So it is great significant for successfuldubbing voices to create characters for television dramas.With demonstration of real video works one base of the theory, This paper aimsto analyze some of the issues now appeared in film dubbing and at the same time toprovide some insight for these problems. This paper is divided into seven parts. Thefirst part is an introduction, describing the background, development, significance,content and method of this research. The second part starting from the concept andapplications of sound, elaborates expression of the sound in the film. The third part isto describe the sound of the language expressed in the movie and film montage ofsound effects and sound shaping; explore the aesthetic value and so on. The fourthpart, on base of film works, analyzes how sound shapes characters in differentperspectives. The fifth part, by way of questionnaire on the audience’s favorite moviecharacters, research on how they understand the characters of TV dramas. The sixthpart, by integrating audience views, combing with film works, elaborates on the workdesign and hierarchy. The seventh part is the conclusion of this paper which explainthe significance of film dubbing work in film and television works, and show the needfor accurate sound shaping according to movie characters on the screen.Today it is found that no matter what forms they are presented, both films andTV works are inseparable from the sound. Sound has become an essential form ofexpression. Sound becomes more convincing and contagious in film and TV dramas.And strongly influence audience’s emotions and feelings. Meanwhile film and TVworks in audience’s daily life enhance its spread range. The sound dubbing enhances the expressiveness and orientation of characters. Thus the character’s thoughts andemotions can be understood by audience. Therefore, it is of much applicationsignificance to research on how sound works on the characters.
