The Qing Dynasty is a blossom for female literature, a large number of femalepoetesses had appeared at that time.Hu Wenkai’s work, which is called The referenceof female literature works from every dynasty, contains more than4200poetesses,among them,361ones are from the late Ming Dynasty, the other3800poetesses areall from Qing Dynasty. Gu Taiqing can become a shining star in the female literaturein the Qing Dynasty while thousands of poetesses occurred. And she becomes animportant landscape in the gallery of female literature history in China. So, it isworthy of our in-depth study. This thesis is generally through repeated reading andthinking of Gu Taiqing’s826poems, trying to widen the research view and field, andattempting to comprehend ideological content and artistic features. In this way, wecan have a better understanding of this female poetess’ extraordinary poetic world,and discover her unique artistic charm.Gu Taiqing’ lived through five periods which include Jiaqing, Daoguang, Xianfeng,Tongzhi and Guangxu in Qing Dynasty. Those periods are the ages of Qing Dynasty’sterm of prosperity to decline. Although she was born in the nobility class, but her lifeexperienced ups and downs. In her early ages, her life was bumpy, in her middle-agedlife, she became a widow and was banished with regrets, in her old age, she sufferedfrom social unrest, and was separated from her friends and families. Otherwise, shealso lost her son and grandchildren. She has not only enjoyed the glory and wealth ofthe Man people’s official families, but she has suffered the bitter and hardship of theworld as well. She had a happy marriage once, but unfortunately she also spent a longtime of solitude. Although the shocks of life got to her constantly, she never gave upon the pursuance of writing poems. In another word, these constantly hardships madethe connotation of her works. Her poetry creating process is her life experience andemotional journey.Due to the constraints of the living environment of objective factors, compared tomale writers, ancient Chinese female writers’ contents and materials of their subjects are much narrower. However, Gu Taiqing’s poetry is not limited by her joys andsorrows. Even she has a little mind of the poems, it still shines as bright as sun andmoon. Her Ji Youshi (cultural poems of traveling) shows her noble attitude ofdespising the common glory and shame to the world. She also wrote her elegantinterests about the melody which made by the mountains and rivers, that shows us thefeeling of plainness and long distant. In Qingyin’s memorial poetry, it shows hersadness of missing her husband, the mourning for her friends, the appreciation of herbenefactors, the pity for her family and maids, and her regrets of losing her son andgrandchildren. Her nursery poems told the love from a mother to her children, it alsoshows the sentimental feelings that when the children left her, and also the hard worksthat a mother had done for her children, it eventually shows a glorious image of thegreat mother. Her poems of civil affairs are about the care of the fate of her peopleand country. This shows a female image who concerned about all the living creaturesin the world. Her poems on paintings shows the interests of life for boudoir women,she described the emotional world of ladies, create a simple realm of noble spirit.Gu Taiqing’s poems combined the scenes and qualities. It is as smooth as a poetrypainting. Her poems expressed naturally the clearness of lyric poetry in emotion. Herpoetry language is natural simple and clear. Her poetry style is fresh beautiful andelegant. Gu Taiqing devoted all her life to her poems to show us an ordinary lady’sunusual life story and experience, her appearance reflects the prosperity of the femaleliterature in the Qing Dynasty. It also leads us to acknowledge women’s life andthought in not only Qing Dynasty but the whole ancient China as well. She helps usunderstand the female literature in that time and space, and appreciate theimperishable artistic charm.
