Mu Dan is one of the soul as well as a monument in the history of Chinesemodern poetry.Mu Dan’s poetry is the combination of poetry, thinking and wisdom,which not only mixed up with his personal life experience and cultural experience,but also his personal temperament and soul thinking. The forty’s and before the forty’sof the last century belongs to the early stage of Mu Dan’s poetry, the poems containsplenty of Mu Dan’s self-writing and modern self-consciousness, highlighted andestablished a lyric hero "I".The artistic image of "I" is a contradictory and harmonymodern self-image which shaped naturally or unconsciously by Mu Dan’s poetry, it isa independent "people" outside of Mu Dan himself and can be said to the literaturemeaning of Mu Dan as well."I" is a painful trapped persons, pay attention to hisindependent personality and the realization of ideal, while often fall into theimplacable contradictions between the reality and ideal and unable to escape; is afaithful patriot, loves his own country and nation,takes pity on the Chinese grassrootscivilians, criticizes the dark side of the society, in order to practice his patrioticaspirations he even gave up the civilian pursuits to join the army; is a cool thinker,once devout his worship in God’s faith to seek spiritual sustenance, then denied Godand turned his attention back to the inner world to explore the true meaning of life.
