In this paper, through the methods of comparing, reasoning and analyzing, it explores the internal logic of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s artistic language. Also gives readers a deeper form of reference to help them understanding the essence of art. This paper starting with the comparing of his most famous artwork- "Seascapes" and Song paintings to discuss the creative techniques of ancient and modern. And then by contrasting "Theater", "Buddha sea" with Buddhism and abstract art to investigate the cultural characteristics between east and west. The third chapter mainly analyzes the identity locating of Hiroshi Sugimoto by the photographers and artists. The fourth and fifth chapter discusses Sugimoto’s historical attitudes of modernization and industrialization through his other sets of works. The sixth chapter discusses the transformation in the form of his works. The seventh chapter contrasts laterally other famous Japanese photographers to probe into Sugimoto’s personal characteristics and nationality. The conclusions primarily reveals the artistic logic of Sugimoto is not method logic, but the logic of desire.
