Research On The Type Of Photography Of Religious Subjects

The article mainly elaborates the expression way and cultural connotations presented in religion-themed photography between China and the West,Firstly,It reviews the Chinese and Western photographer`s concern over the religion-them from the origin of photography to the beginning of the 20 century and lists several representative photographers including John Thomson,Oscar Gustave Rejlander,Zhuang Xueben,etc.Secondly,Based on modern photography as a starting point,the article emphasizes on the projects regarding the Chinese Catholic and Tibetan Buddhism photographed by Lv Nan,a Chinese documentary photographer,the interpretation of religious culture in the name of photography by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Andres Serrano,and also expounds the phenomenon of religious subjects being applied by popular photography.The author,with the Islam in Lanzhou as the research object,analyzes the development and present situation of Islam in Lanzhou and explores the role the city played in ethnic amalgamation in the practice of religious landscape photography.
