As a unique branch of bronze inscriptions, the Han bronze inscriptions has its own calligraphic artistic style. However, even to this day, people pay much less attention towards it than to bronze inscriptions of other dynasties, which puts the study of Han bronze inscriptions in a relatively marginalized situation, not even to say the very few study on it from the calligraphic angle. But with it constantly being unearthed and discovered in recent few decades, Han bronze inscriptions has gradually become important materials for calligraphic learners and creators, providing artistic nutrition as well as contributing to being explored calligraphic creation for them. The big contrast appears when the significance of Han bronze inscriptions is compared with its current research status. Since the inscriptions on bronze wares were made by the craftsmen but not real calligraphers, many scholars at present time tried to exclude the bronze inscriptions from the calligraphic art. Therefore, it becomes particularly important to make a comprehensive study and systematic analysis on Han bronze inscriptions from the calligraphic angle. This study is of great significance in fostering a comprehensive understanding of the development of Chinese characters, revealing the full view of the calligraphic art of bronze inscriptions, even in cultivating all-rounded knowledge of the calligraphy art in Han dynasty.This thesis is composed of following five chapters.The first chapter is introduction part, which mainly elaborates the objective, significance, research methods of this study, as well as presenting literature review of Han bronze inscriptions home and abroad.Chapter two mainly sorts out the development skeleton of bronze inscriptions. The bronze inscriptions was initiated in early Shang Dynasty and evolved continuously through Shang Dynasty, Zhou Dynasty, Qin Dynasty, even till Han Dynasty. Although there were clear veins of its development and evolution, the bronze inscriptions present representative artistic features from different dynasties. Thus, an overall understanding towards the development skeleton of it, especially the bronze inscriptions before Han Dynasty, should be grasped firstly to summarize the specific artistic features of Han bronze inscriptions, so as to better reveal the artistic value of Han bronze inscriptions.Chapter three analyzes the calligraphic frame features of Han bronze inscriptions respectively through several aspects of its shape, times, artistic features, writing rules, simplification and complication, etc. With its various shapes and distinctive calligraphic artistic features, Han bronze inscriptions enjoy a high artistic value that artists of later generations always learn from its forms and shapes.Chapter four explains the influence of Han bronze inscriptions upon seal study. The ancient characters (including Han bronze inscriptions) are important materials and inspiration sources for seal-men to conduct artistic creation. By taking full advantage of Han bronze inscriptions and other ancient characters materials, many talented seal cutting artists like Zhao Zhiqian, Huang Mufu, Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi had sprung up one after another, and a prospered seal cutting art structure was formed. These seal cutting artists constantly gained essences and looked for breakthrough from the ancient materials, and built up their unique and magnificent seal cutting world.Inscriptions on Modern Chinese Calligraphy also have a profound impact on Chinese calligraphy inscriptions in Zhuanli integration phase, they represent Chinese seal, it has been an important ancient writing material in modern calligrapher creation of the draw.Chapter five is the conclusion, which summarizes the content of the whole thesis.
