The Collating And Study On The Qin’s Inscriptions On Bronze

The Qin’s characters resemble a bridge of the development of Chinese characters while Qin’s inscriptions on bronze play a important role in. However, there are only a few systemic and entire studies on Qin’s inscriptions on bronze among all kinds of studies on Qin’s characters. Thus, such study is necessary. Based on the entire collating of Qin’s inscriptions on bronze during The Spring and Autumn Period to warring state period, this paper made a study on the configuration of Qin’s inscriptions on bronze, compared them with characters in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, and made a complete compilation of Qin’s inscriptions on bronze.This paper has 2 parts. The former part is divided in 4 chapters. Chapter One briefly introduced status studies on Qin’s inscriptions on bronze. Chapter Two analyzed the alternation of constructions in Qin’s inscriptions, and discussed the changing of shui’s and jin’s figure. Chapter Three tried to find out the relationship between Qin’s inscriptions on bronze and small-seal-style characters in Shuo Wen, and came to a conclusion that the small-seal characters inherited and collated Qin’s inscriptions. Chapter Four compared Qin’s inscriptions on bronze with Zhou-style characters and ancient-styld characters in Shuo Wen, and concluded that Zhou-style characters had less influence on Qin’s inscriptions during the time; ancient-style characters might be derived from inscriptions of the other six states. The rear part is a complete compilation of Qin’s inscriptions on bronze. Ordered as the sequence of Shuo Wen, the compilation includes 496 formal characters and 1229 inscriptions in all, which is a complete collection of Qin’s inscriptions till December,2013. This compilation will provide convenience to the relevant studies.
