This paper presents a case study of CAFA(Central Academy of Fine Arts) Art Museum to discuss the mutually beneficial and contradictory relationship of the industry role and the community role of museum. Not only CAFA Art Museum is a national university museum, but also a knowledge producer which leads the academic research of arts industry, and an experimental base in which art of younger generation is unearthed, displayed and interpreted. It is a museum of science, innovation and experiment. This industry role makes its public education to focus on art schools students and professionals. However as a cultural and educational institution of society, museum ought to make art to be extensively spread. Paying great attention to its industry role while neglects its community role make the education of CAFA Art Museum takes the professionals seriously while does not attach importance to the amateurs.To avoid being an ivory tower or an industry instrument, CAFA Art Museum should pay more attention to its community environment. Necessary measures should be taken, such as analyzing community population structure, planning more education programs for the amateurs of community, taking art theory as guidelines, controlling the difficulty of learning, combining entertainment and education. CAFA Art Museum should work with other cultural institutions in Hua Jia Di Community, Wang Jing Community and Chao Yao Community, optimizing resource allocation and motivating the residents’ enthusiasm. A balance point should be found during this change:CAFA Art Museum should take its industry role as the dominant position, turning into a communicators as well as an educator.
