Historical And Cultural Reading

The author selects the fourth chapter of The Heritage of Chinese Civilization to translate. This text is about the history and culture of the Ming and Qing dynasties of China, such as philosophy, religion and economy, and is found to be characteristic of a great number of technical terms and amount of historical and cultural information. During the process of translation, the author has been gradually aware of some problems that have to be dealt with in the translation. Through the practice and summary, the author also concludes some methods of translation with the co ntinuous study of the translated. As for the translation of Chinese history and culture, the author makes an analysis from two aspects: vocabulary translation and the addition of Chinese history and culture. The author expects to accumulate more experience of translating such historical and cultural text, and help other translators to obtain further knowledge regarding C hinese culture in the western perspective, which will promote the cultural communication between C hina and the west.
