Zhang lei, whose courtesy name WenQian and self-titled KeShan, was born in Huaiyin, ChuZhou(today’s Huai’an City, in Jiangsu Province).As an indispensible one of "Four Scholars of Su Shi" and a famous litterateur of the Northern Song Dynasty, he enjoyed a high reputation in the coming literary world. This paper firstly takes Zhang Lei’s fluctuant official career and miserable wandering life as a starting point, to explore his political ideal and Confucian moral integrity from the political strategies he favored and the change of his mentality in a complex and treacherous era of talented and able crowed, and which further to deepen the understanding of the Confucian’s cultural characters in the complicated contradictions of the Northern Song Dynasty. This paper consists of two parts: the introduction and the main body. The introduction mainly sketches the current research status of Zhang Lei in the academia, which at the same time briefly lists the purpose and significance of this research. The main body consists of four chapters, chapter one gives an initial positioning to Zhang Lei, according to the changes of the scholar-bureaucrat status and the atmosphere of that era, explore the time characteristics of him; Chapter two is Zhang Lei’s administrating attitude and psychology evolution, based on the tracing back of his official life and other life experience, try to explain his psychology and mentality change, for a more comprehensive of Zhang Lei;Chapter three expounds his political ideal and practice strategies through studying on his essays:Chapter four highlights the Confucian’s political affection and the influence on their works from the relationship of political thoughts, official career and literary creation.
