Chen Guo is a famous director who grew up in the 90’s of Hong Kong, and he was strongly influenced by the "Hong Kong New Film Wave". His films focus on marginalized people’s survival condition and the spiritual world, the camera pointed at the bottom space outside the mainstream, the fate of the characters in Hong Kong will be placed in the background of the 1997 regression to explore the identity problems. And he also concerns about the social problems and the humanistic connotation. Furthermore, his films explore the cultural development track of Hong Kong before and after nine seven; also show the plight of survival space at the bottom of the Hong Kong society, which contain both direct description and the indirect clues. His film Made in Hong Kong shocked the Hong Kong movie circle and won reputation at home and abroad. After that, he made two films called The longest summer, Little Cheung, and these two films were defined as his "Nine seven trilogy" or "Regression trilogy" together with Made in Hong Kong. These films became a unique mirror of Hong Kong society, which revealed the social problems in Hong Kong. If Xu An Hua, Wong Kar Wai are the representatives of the intellectual directors, then Chen Guo is probably the most sensitive Hong Kong film director to the cultural studies, whose works presented a variety of more complex place, and can be used for interpretation of the Hong Kong cultural politics orient.Chen Guo’s film reveals a kind of plain; his shots show the difference between the real Hong Kong space and the film. Chen Guo overturns the traditional scene of debauchery lead voluptuous life in Hong Kong, the space under his shot is narrow and fringe. He places the shots at the bottom social space:the old streets, dirty toilets, crowd markets and the deserted graveyard. Explores the city in a fragmented way.This paper will use the author theory, comparative study, case analysis and summative methods. Place Chen Guo’s works in the background of 90’s Hong Kong, to explain the results of the characters in the movie image and space expression, digging deeper meaning of Chen Guo’s films, and discuss the unique style and culture connotation in Chen Guo’s movie. The first chapter mainly analyzes Hong Kong city space in Chen Guo’s film, the meaning and theory of film space, Hong Kong city space image in Hong Kong films. Chen Guo’s films depict the marginal, partial, fragmented city space, and he explores the underlying space of Hong Kong with his lens. In the second chapter, mainly defines Chen Guo person’s living space as a starting point, divided into the edge of space, personal narrow space, Hong Kong Road space, rich and poor space, and explore the plight of survival behind the space. The third chapter mainly discusses the cultural background of Chen Guo s film creation, the nine seven Hong Kong regression, and the affect of nine seven regression on the people of Hong Kong, also, discuss the embodiments of the nine seven return in Chen Guo’s movie.
