"Help" The Power

The Help created by the white female writer Kathryn Stockett who is regarded as a masterpiece taking black women as her subject matter. It is a great breakthrough in the field of the black female literature. Its profound meaning such as anti-hegmonic and the pursuit of justice has an actual impact on the racial discrimination. It not only hits the male’s family predominance among races but also attacks the white cultural hegemonic.This paper will analyze the faculty of the white culture’s double marginalization to the black female by means of female criticism theory and narrative theory, analysis of the the black female’s social position under the control of white cultural hegemonic. Based on comprehensive analysis, the paper has reflected the black women’s consciousness and the great effort to establish harmonious society.The paper consists of three parts. Part one will state the hardship and difficult life of American black female as “the silence of the lambs” under the double oppression of white cultural hegemony and patriarchy, analyzing the reason of their social condition from the historical background and current social situation. Thus it is concluded that it has a long history of the white culture’s double marginalization to the black female and they have gradually admitted their identity. Part two will use feminism theory to expound the black female’s struggle for self-liberation. From the sprouting of self-awareness to rising up against their situation, they fight for liberation with the help of sister.Therefore it is the social trend for black female to gain more rights. But this result can be only achieved by mutual assistance. Part three will focus on The Help by means of the theory of narratology. It mainly expounds from the pointof narrative perspective and character selection. The effect is obvious,the white female writer breaks the constrain of race and gender,writing from the aspects of casting off the racial spanned, class transcendence and gender.There is no doubt that it will strike the white cultural hegemony and patriarchy.
