As a leading figure of contemporary literary writers, Zong Pu brings fresh air to the literary world with his unique personal style. With the novels by Zong Pu in the new period as the main research object, this thesis attempts to give a deep analysis of the narrative art of Zong Pu so as to explore the rich connotation of his texts. This thesis consists of three chapters: Chapter one analyzes the narrative space art of Zong Pu’s novels in the new period. The little space of Zong Pu’s novels in the new period focuses on the field of daily life and poetic life, which aims to reveal the essence of the intellectuals. While the large space concentrates on the period of Anti-Japanese War and the Cultural Revolution, which shows the choice and growth of the intellectuals. In addition, the novels by Zong Pu in the new period reflects the characteristic of the confrontation between the large space and little space, which reveals the frustration and thinking of the intellectuals in the face of making choices. Chapter two studies the narrative voice art of Zong Pu in the new period. With interior monologue as the hidden voice of the female characters, the novels by Zong Pu in the new period convey his consciousness of female identity and female subject. This sort of hidden voice conveys modern consciousness of women and reveals the author’s concern for the survival state of the intellectuals. Chapter three studies the narrative defect of the novels by Zong Pu in the new period. On the sphere of narrative space, the poetic description of the little space by Zong Pu, to some extent, blurs the tragic beauty of the times, while the warm presentation of the large space looses the narrative rhythm. On the dimension of narrative voice, the excessive use of interior monologue leads to the flattening development of some characters, and the inappropriate use of the hidden voice results into the obscure of the themes.
