The Vampire Gothic literature has been popular ever since its beginning until the 21 st century in the literature history. The Vampire Diaries was written by Lisa Jane Smith. The fiction involved love, youth, campus, idol, reality and magic, related with revenge, disease, death, sex, religion and emotion. It restarted a great mass fervor of the Vampire Gothic literature. The vampire image in this fiction not only inherited the tradition, but also was innovative. Its Neo-Gothic characteristics were distinct. It retained the feature of pale complexion, the vampire turned clewing demons into handsome and graceful nobility without ugliness, cemetery and castle; it no longer obscured between vampire and werewolf in the image and the way to defend; it made vampire’s specific function and transformation more clear; it made the soul of vampire into another carrier for humanity, so there were better vampires than others; the vampire in the fiction was American and humanistic in appearance and character; it’s commercial value became prominent with more flexible roles, more abundant themes, more exciting plots. The Vampire Diaries was a love story about the Salvatores who were vampires and Elena Gilbert who was a human girl. It followed a clue of Elena’s transition from human to vampire, and finally back to human again. It was fantastic with attractive plots and suspense. The vampire in the fiction was born of mother’s love, instead of guilty in myths, legends, history and religious stories. There were four important vampire images in the fiction, Stefan Salvatore, Damon Salvatore, Katherine Pierce, and Elena Gilbert. It created modern vampires with humanization of vampire images, suspenseful plots, American local environment and rich symbolic signification. They inherited highly bloodthirsty and brutality, but got rid of the demon’s appearance and the reliance on Middle Ages castle in classical Gothic fiction. They became another carrier for exploring humanity. The image was horrible. It was not revealed by its appearance but its internal fighting. It broke through the constant pattern and concentrated not on the external but on the weird internal. It combined with the exploration of psychology and morality. The description about vampire image was no longer patterned and idealistic but more complex and humanistic. The vampire image in the fiction had distinct literary meaning, cultural significance and social significance. It inherited and carried forward the Gothic tradition of the British and American literature. It successfully integrated vampire image into the modern American fiction and made Gothic novel gradually into the postmodern view; The vampire Gothic novel had a thrilling power with witchcraft, supernatural things, thrilling and vampires. It described a postmodern world full of emptiness, loneliness, fear and anxiety. It interpreted the crisis consciousness of the end of the world, reflected marginalized ethnic groups in the American culture, and revealed the predicament of human existence under the pressure of belief crisis, the lack of a sense of belonging, fear, anxiety, trust crisis, the question to the value of existence, and the darkness of human nature.
