There is much evidence that humans are influenced by social information when they make mate-choice decisions, namely the individual tend to choose the love of other people as a partner of love. This study investigated the influence of mating strategies and instant mood on mate choice copying through two successive experiments which use Chinese college students as subjects. But we didn’t duplicate the phenomenon of mate choice coping in Chinese people. And experiment three went back to the nature of the problem, namely that Chinese people don’t exist mate choice copy phenomenon? Experiment 3 investigated the impact of target status on their attractiveness level by a single factor experiment.Experiment one used 2(mating strategies: long-term strategy; short-term strategies) x 2(target relationship status: in love; single) x 2(gender: female; male) of mixed experimental design. The results show that the mate choice copying is not easy to happen when men looking for long-term partner. Both men and women will not be influenced when they are looking for short-term partners. The research did not confirm that women copy the choice of others when they use long-term mating strategies; instead they are more interested in men who are single. In conclusion, it is not easy for Chinese to make mate choice copying.Experiment two used 2(instant mood: happiness; sadness) x 2(target relationship status: single; in love)of between subjects experiments design, which chose female college students as the subjects of the research. The experimental results showed that the main effect of emotion is not significant; females rated single targets higher scores when they evaluated the attractiveness of male targets.Experiment three was single factor experimental design which had two levels with females students as the subjects. The control variable was the target relationship status(single; in love).the dependent variable was the attractive of the targets and to what extent the participants want the targets to become a partner. The experiment results showed that the females did not show special interest to targets that had a girlfriend; instead that they were more interested in single.By means of the above three experiments, this study did not find a mate choice copying phenomenon in China. Chinese women seem to be more interested in men who are single. We guess that may be associative with collectivist culture which promotes harmonious interpersonal relationship.
