<Konjakumonogatari> Collection is the largest story collection at the end of Heian Era in the early 20 th century in Japan. Besides, in content it also belongs to the category of Buddhist talk literature.<Konjakumonogatari> Collection contains more than 1000 stories taking India, China and Japan as its stages. Moreover, out of over 60 states in Japan at that time, there are only 3 states which are not mentioned. The characters include nobles, monks, mushas, ordinary people, businessmen, fishermen, sumo wrestlers, doctors, onmyojis, younies, puppets, thieves, beggars and even varieties of birds and animals.The core of <Konjakumonogatari> Collection is Section Japanese from Volume 11 to Volume 31. The contents cover the Buddha, Recitation, the statues of the Buddha, Saddharma Pundarika, being reborn, Avalokiteshvara, Ksitigarbha and many Buddhist stories. Also, there are collected biographies of Fujiwara Clan, battles between warriors, biographies of artistry and craft, jokes, ghosts, devilries, love, tittle-tattles and all sorts of worldly stories in it. Thus, it is an all-embracing comprehensive collection.At the beginning of Section Japanese, Volume 11 records many tales of eminent monks. The first half gives an account of Xing Ji, Dao Zhao, Jian Zhen, Kong Hai, Zui Cheng, Yuan Ren, Yuan Zhen and many eminent monks in the history. All the tales develop from the point of view to promote Japanese Buddhism. Among them, some marvelous experiences between the missionary master, Zui Cheng and the Buddha are listed such as revelation and blessing. However, these experiences are fictional in which there are some hints to prove that they are fabricated. Furthermore, the contents of that Zui Cheng becomes a Buddhist at a young age, disciplines himself in mountains, seeks for the truths in Tang, returns Japan, founds Tiantai Sect and promotes Buddhism feature biography of eminent monks.This thesis will take the stories of Zui Cheng in Volume 11 as the research object and will explore the story property of his stories by means of text analysis.
