Raymond Williams' Cultural Materialism And Its Contemporary Value Analysis

Culture as an important concept of Marxist philosophy and literature along with the development of the whole of human society, cultural concept also involves the construction of social and political system problems. 20 th Century British Marxist theoretician, representative of the New Left philosophy Raymond Williams to reconstruct the "culture" concept start by Marx "basis- superstructure" restatement of the problem, the establishment of a system of cultural materialism. Raymond Williams, author of the theory of cultural materialism combing the present situation of China’s development of cultural theory, summed up the significance of cultural materialist theory of the development of our culture.Due to cultural materialism thought Williams was involved in a multi-disciplinary philosophy, the author under the guidance of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the integrated use of research methods philosophy, literature, sociology and other disciplines, materialistic culture around Williams ideology and its academic value and other issues, mainly from three aspects are discussed and summarized. The first part focuses on the background of cultural materialism of Williams produced. The second part introduces the main contents of Williams’ cultural materialistic thinking through analysis of the main problems with the materialistic culture and cultural transmission methods, summed up the whole development process of cultural materialism of Williams. The third part discusses the research value of Williams’ Cultural Materialism and their practical significance for China’s cultural development.Williams’ theory of cultural materialism helps some social and cultural fields that exist in our correct understanding, and in order to solve these problems provide a feasible plan. Although the idea of cultural materialism Williams has its progressive, but there are still some shortcomings, in practice, we should take the attitude of abandoning reasonably absorb advanced part of his theory.
