Yangko dance is rooted in the long history of the Chinese agricultural civilization. It is a very popular folk art in the countryside. Jiaozhou Yangko dance is one of the representative Yangko dances in Shandong province, northern China. It is abundant with the long historical elements and people’s enthusiasm for folk culture of the Jiaozhou region. In2006, Jiaozhou Yangko dance was listed as World Intangible Cultural Heritage. As a performing form of traditional Chinese folk art, Jiaozhou Yangko dance is of great research value and significance. Increasingly, it has captured scholars’ attention.Jiaozhou Yangko drama is the higher level of Yangko dance. According to researches, Jiaozhou Yangko dance originated from song-and-dance performance. After a period of development, it has become what we see as the Yangko Drama today and had its own unique artistic features. From a historical point of view, the development of Jiaozhou Yangko drama has been relatively natural, without the external force to change or reform it. Therefore, it is critical to deepen our study of Jiaozou Yangko drama, if we want to grab the essence or the root of Jiaozou Yangko dance and create a promising future for Jiaozou Yangko dance.In several field researches, the author found that Yangko dance is still a popular way of recreation among local residents, despite the advancements in society and changes of time. However, the room of Jiaozhou Yangko dance has gradually shrank under the impact of urbanization and diversification of entertainment. Now the non-government protection of Jiaozhou Yangko drama is weakening. This poses a real challenge to dancers who want to inherit the precious traditional performance of Yangko drama in a world abundant with cultural products. This paper aims to make a clear introduction of the origin and development of Jiaozhou Yangko drama with the reference of related researches. Then analyze the performing style and procedure of Jiaozhou Yangko drama through La Mo, a representative Yangko drama. At last, from what to change and not change, this paper will make feasible suggestions on the inheritance and protection of Jiaozhou Yangko drama. This paper will provide some valuable thoughts for the teaching of Jiaozhou Yangko dance and folk culture classes of Beijing Dance Academy and make a contribution to the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese folk culture.
