Aron Copland is a very important American composer. To create “American Music” was oneof his ultimate goal in life. And he focused on it through his whole lifetime. Not only among theprofessional musician in United States, but also the whole world have considered Copland’sworks as a represent of unique American Music style and his great contribution for thedevelopment of American Music. Copland used national identity, personal characteristics, modernmusic features as the most important three pillars for his music compositions. As the time past,his compose skill got more mature and his music style more distinctively.This thesis divided into four parts, the first two part is an overview of American professionalmusic development during the18to early20century. Then, outlined Copland’s life, his influenceand contributions for the United States specializing music. The third chapter used Copland’s fourpieces, named "Humor Scherzo:The Cat and the Mouse"," Jazzy"," Piano Variations "," NightThoughts ", as examples to show his music compose features and the development of his musicstyle. The last chapter will concentrate on analyze Copland ‘s music style.The topic of this thesis intended to use literature, music morphological analysis, logicalinduction method to analyze, to use four pieces from different time period of Copland as a mainpart, to use his compose skill features as a view, to use the development of his music style, to helppeople know more about this great composer “Copland” and his unique artistic style.
