Dream is a common topic in ancient Chinese history, which deeply affecting all aspects of social life. It also occupies an important position in ancient Chinese literature. From Book of Songs, the first collection of Chinese poetry, to Dream of Red Mansions, the master piece of Chinese literature, the dream topic exists. The author realized the importance of dream in literature however there is still not enough academic research in this field. This article attempts to study the dream of ancient Chinese literature to find their different properties from the biological aspects, namely the product of rational activity, which holds the characteristics such as illegibility, full of authenticity and so on. The author analyzes the unique aesthetic and the characteristics, such as condensation and transcendence. Then all the literary functions about the text dream will be summed:I, the performance function, which includes four functions of the text dream, virtual function, lyrical function, perception function, and irony function. II, the structure function, which reflects in the following three aspects:First, the combination of actual and virtual situation, which Extends time and space. Second, indicating future, pushing the story plot. Third, content organization, build framework. The author discusses the significance and function of the dream to the creation of literature products from three aspects, as the literature creation driving force, as one type aesthetic ideal of literature creation, and as one kind method of shaping the character.
